Have started to have some serious spring fever now, especially since New York temperatures are pushing 63F. Almost tropical for this time of the year! And sandal weather is not too far away—or so I hope.

I spotted these at Nine West the other day and they combine two of my favorites for this season, a chunky mini heel and snake skin (this multi-colored version kind of caught my eye.) Not too pricey either, especially since I seem to trash my sandals after just one season (literally wear and tear!)

Winter Walk

I know it's a little sporadic with the updates here lately. Tons of stuff going on at work and keeping busy at home with the family. Took a whole day out Saturday to go for a long walk at Caumsette Park and Stables in Lloyd Harbor. I couldn't believe what an amazing day we had. 55F and sun in January—what are the odds of that!

Just about to head into bed. I have to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for our Tartan Chic Winter Party at Mary Queen of Scots tomorrow night. Themed dress code: the wooliest tartan and the furriest fur...whatever that means.

Dying to Try: Bumble & Bumble Concen-Straight

Just got a new product from Bumble and Bumble called Concen-Straight and it's basically an at-home "mini" Brazilian blowout, except it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde or lye.

According to the instructions, all you have to do is wash your hair, put the product in for 30 min and comb your hair straight every 5 min. Then wash, blow dry and flat iron. Leave for 24 hours before washing again. Doesn't seem too difficult, right?! I have curly hair that I loath, so if this works it will be the best $45.00 I've ever spent. I think the Sunday will be the trial day, so stay tuned for the review.

I know it's not brand new, but I can't help but being completely obsessed with Pinterest. If you haven't heard of it yet, it's a personal digital pin board where you can save images of everything you love (it's almost like blogging-lite). To make the whole thing even better, you can also follow your friends and other people with similar tastes to get ideas and inspiration. Super quick and easy way to create mood boards for fashion, accessories, design and other things that inspire you. So far, I've only noticed one drawback, you can't pin directly from Facebook, which is kind off a biggie in this social day and age. Come on Facebook, play nicely.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Happy Little Christmas! Only a few hours left of work before heading off to suburbia for our wonderful Arthur Christmas with friends and family.

But, before heading off, I'm making a quick pit stop at Tbsp/Spoon (one of my favorite little cafes here in Manhattan) for lunch with an old friend from Sweden that I haven't seen in almost 10 years. Our paths have coincidentally crossed again--right here in NYC. What are the chances of that?!A little Christmas miracle.

And since it tis' the season of giving and receiving, I thought I would share a list of a few of my [current] favorite things. I have been pretty good this year, so maybe Santa will bring me something nice...

Something like this amazing sparkly dress from Tibi, maybe paired with these beautiful high heel velvet slippers from Cole Haan. Some dreamy cashmere from J Crew...maybe a crazy orange scarf or a cozy grey hoodie. They all look perfect to me. And lastly, a fancy camera to replace all my old stuff. I would love this one from Sony to capture all our memories with Cami--nice and small and, surprisingly, with much better reviews than the Nikon 1.

Home for the Holidays

Just back at work after a super relaxing weekend--I actually didn't leave the house once! Movies, chocolate, glogg and five loads of laundry to keep me company. After a few hectic weekends, this is just what the doctor ordered. I have had a cold dragging on for almost a month and a half now and I do not want to be sick over the holidays.

Four more days of work until my nice long stay-cation until the new year. I have already made plans for almost every single day, a little bit of house work and tons of fun activities.

In normal fashion, I'm being a complete Last-minute Lucy with my Christmas shopping and I have been running around like a maniac today. Got some really nice stuff for Rich at Fjallraven (I have to support the Swedish economy), Filson and J Crew. I also have few things on order from Denmark, but who knows if they will really get here on time! Of course, I couldn't help popping into Coach when I was in the neighborhood. I haven't been in there for years--a little too much suburban soccer mom for me--but I found this really nice bag. Tempted....but for $798? A little steep to be Coach, I think....

Just discovered the most amazing hair product—Pure African Shea Oil (Damage Repair) from Saryna Key.

For the last couple years I have used Moroccan Oil, but the drawback is that if you use too much you hair appears oily and greasy. But when I went to my hair stylist last week, they put Shea oil in my hair instead, and I have to say, I'm totally in love with it. Super light damage repair (highlights really do a number on your hair) and you are not stuck with flat greasy hair after applying it. It's a little pricy, but it is so worth it. I think so far the best price I have seen is at Ebay, $34.95.

Friday Night Firsts

Just returned back to work today after a few very busy days off. We were supposed to head into the city last Friday for some Christmas fun, but unfortunately I managed to pass on my head cold to Rich, so neither of us were in the mood to tackle the city with a baby. But that didn't mean the whole day was a bust. Some christmas shopping, a wonderful lunch. and then an evening at the ice skating rink at Woodbury Community Park.

Cami actually did pretty well for her first time—of course, she did struggle with the whole idea of gliding vs walking. She was mainly walking across the ice with her skates on, but after a little bit she got the idea and let me tow her around. I probably had just as much fun as Cami! I got to brush up on my ice skating skills–I did learn how to skate from my dad, after all, and there were no shortcuts just for being a girl =)

I just caught wind of scottish designer Donna Wilson, that makes the most amazing mittens, scarfs, pillows and of course other great knitted stuff too. She runs a studio and workshop out of London, but sells her products on her website and shops around the world. (She did win the British Design Award in 2010. Well done and much deserved.)

An Arthur Christmas

I think officially Christmas has begun at our house.

A wonderful day with Christmas music on the radio and Glögg in our mugs,—a full-on Christmas extravaganza. Knäck and kola made, Christmas cards ordered, decorations are up—inside and out—and the tree is in in place—in all its glory. We were hoping to have had time to cut our own tree this year, but with a house full of sicklings, that was way too ambitious for today. A more lowkey trip to home depot was more what we could muster. There is always next year, right?

The tree ended up being a complete nightmare to decorate when Campbell quickly began to remove ornaments instead of putting them (of course, the really fragile ones too!) Three hours and two broken decorations later, the tree is just perfect and we are totally exhausted! Thank god this is a short week for us both.

Next weekend will probably be just as crazy. Heading back into the city on Friday for a full day of Christmas fun with the family, our annual St. Lucia celebration at Central Park West on Saturday and then Breakfast with Santa on Sunday morning. Plus, I just found out that there are plans to have cake for Rich's dad on Sunday night. I'm going to need a whole week of sleep after this. Luckily I'm taking some time off in between Christmas and New Years for some much needed R&R.

Finally some Thanksgiving photos! I had been hoping to get these photos up earlier this week, but for the twentieth time I had misplaced my camera cord. Well, now new cord in hand, I just realized that Cami has been playing with my camera and managed to change to settings to save really small files of the photos instead, hence the blurry photos (why do I let her play with these things!?)

We had such a nice time at Rich's cousin's house. Gosh, I left that thanksgiving with total house envy. I would love to have their house—beautifully renovated with all the right old details from the original house. Sigh. One day =)

But I always try to reflect on all the great things I do have—especially a wonderful husband and the most special, beautiful, determined and loving little girl in the world. And most of all, I'm thankful for being blessed with all the things I need, and still enough wants to keep life interesting.

Out of all the shoes I wear—cheap and expensive ones—it's always my affordable Nine West pairs I get the most compliments on! Weird right!? But I actually love Nine West, always super comfy even for long Manhattan walks, really cute styles and priced just right.

Play date with Laurie and Mimi last week--actually the first real play date they have ever had. (Thanks Laurie for being the hostess with the mostest!) I think the little ones will get the hang of it soon--so far it was two girls playing two separate games right next to each other. Plus, Cami did not score any brownie points with Mimi when she on several occasions stole Mimi's favorite blanket. Such a little naghty girl sometimes =)

But to be honest, it was a perfect excuse for us girls to get together and have a glass of wine. Unfortunately, those instances are far and few between now when kids are in the picture. But we cherish the times we do have. Thank you girls for being wonderful friends!

It's a Wonderful Life

Happy Monday everyone! I can't believe I'm back at work already. This long Thanksgiving weekend was just so nice, I didn't want it to end. A perfect blend of relaxation and family get-togethers, plus we even had a little time to be productive. All the windows are now completed in the living room. It's amazing what a difference it made--I'm not even sure why we didn't do this before. Pretty, pretty, pretty.

Just to make myself feel a little better, I already started to plan my next day off in two weeks. We are spending the whole day in the city seeing the tree, window shopping on 5th ave, drinking hot coco, visiting FAO Schwartz to pick out the perfect toy. And maybe we can squeeze in a little ice skating at the Wollman Rink if we are lucky! A very merry holiday day =)

I was itching to start decorating the house for Christmas this weekend, but as usual we ran out of time. But least the house is all shiny and clean, so we are all set to bring out all the decorations next weekend...or maybe even before that!

Hidden Talents

I think we all have at least one unexpected hidden talent that is just waiting to come out. One of those thing that is a complete surprise to yourself and everyone around you. I discovered mine a few years ago when we move into our first apartment together. It was apparent that I was really good at home renovations. Carpentry. Laying tiles. Installing windows. For some unexplained reason I can just look at it and then figure out how to do it! No training whatsoever (wood shop in grammar school does not count!).

[Tell me, what's your hidden talent?]

Back to the weekend project. We really only have a handful of projects left in the house, but new bathroom tiles was definitely one of them.

We have had these gross 1970s tiles since we moved in 6 years ago. Some weird mix of bone white and fleshy pink. I don't even understand how anyone could have picked it out.

48 hour transformation. Old tiles out, new tiles in, and it looks amazing! I'm actually a little impressed myself. For a while on Saturday I actually started to think we wouldn't be able I finish on time for Monday morning (Water damage in the form of soaking wet drywall was discovered midway in the project. I should have known). But beautiful white subway tiles with a grayish blue glass tile accent striped. All ready for another bubble bath.

I woke up so full of excitement today, a little extra spring in my step. Not only is it Friday, but today is pitch day! It doesn't get any more exhilarating that that. With that unusual little burst of energy, I actually managed leave the house five minutes earlier than normal--just enough to goof around a little outside with Cami (and snap a few shots). She is truly the sunshine of my life and just adds that extra sliver lining in everything =)

As always after a big pitch, I'm craving a little relaxation and rest. Maybe an evening in PJs, with tea and The King's Speech on Netflix? Planning another ambitious weekend--we really want everything to be in in time for the holidays. New shower tiles are being installed and we are having our the annual closet clean out. I need to purge to make room for some new stuff. Right now I'm so frustrated--everything is so jammed in there that it's so difficult to get ready in the morning.

Mentally preparing for a Crazy day for tomorrow. Last push for the big creative pitch. It's been such a great learning experience, and I'm crossing my fingers that it will go perfect down in Miami on Friday.

Of course, I'm on the midnight drunk train with all the party people. My goodness, does fast food they're munching on smell delish or what! But no junk food for me—I'm on day 4 of my pre-holiday slim down commitment. I'm staying strong (minus 5 lbs so far) and I'm quietly channeling Wallis Simpson's 'a woman can never be too rich or too skinny'.

My whole theory on fashion is to spend a little more then usual on classic garments and save on trendy items that you will just wear a handful of times or for just a season. I think we all have at least a few pieces in our closets that were super expensive and very trendy (complete impulse buys!!) I know, I have for sure a few of those guilt ridden items still hanging in my closet. I just can't get myself to donate them—they were way too expensive (and secretly I think I'm hoping that they will some back in fashion some day.)

Plus, Cami spills a wide variety of foods and drinks on me almost every day. I can't remember last I managed to stay spill free for a whole day =) and no matter how hard I try, grape juice, lollipops, and those macaronis that come flying always seem to land on that silk blouse or the nice cashmere sweater.

Good Morning Cold Spring Harbor

Beautiful crisp fall morning on the island. Just three more days of the work week. Hurrah! Saturday night wine tasting at our place. I had been planning this party for last weekend, but with the great weather, the new window installation had to take precedence. All that's remaining is to pick out six great wines and make some good food to snack on. I'm thinking three whites and three reds. Suggestions?

Thanksgiving in just another two weeks—where did this fall go? August until now went so fast, and it's soon Christmas!

Speaking of Christmas, I'm so excited for the holidays. I actually love the whole Christmas season—we always kick-off with Lucia celebration at the Swedish church. (Just a reminder, tickets go on sale Nov 18). This year Cami is going to be so much more aware of everything, so Christmas should be absolutely spectacular. We are adding a new tradition this year and we'll go out east on the North Fork to cut our own Christmas tree!

I think I have become one of those people...you know, one of those parents who think their kid is the cutest thing and can't stop taking pictures. I guess it's inevitable...

Having Cami just made that final missing piece of the puzzle fall into place. That last hole in your heart goes away and everything is perfect no matter what happens around you, you always have her—the world is simply complete!

Just a few pictures from the weekend. She is growing up way too fast—she was beyond excited when she figured out how the harmonica worked (I think we are going to regret this one. Thumbs down for noisy toys!!)

She's also started to embrace her inner Picasso. Post-modern abstract paintings are being produced at lightening speed. Most of them consist of a few scribbles in a single color, but to me it's the most amazing piece of art =)

These photos are a few days late, but better late than ever, right? It was Campbell's first year for real trick or treating, and her cousin John was sweet enough to take her around the neighborhood for a few house. Dressed up as a Monarch Butterfly she was cute as a button, although she didn't love all the fuzzy down trim around the collar—most of it ended up in her mouth!

We weren't sure if she was going to catch on, but it only took her first house to figure out what it was all about. The biggest problem was how to coax her to give up most of the candies she got in her basket!

What a whirlwind of a day! It's been absolutely crazy at work, which is both good and bad at the same time. Days pass by in the blink of an eye, but I'm so tired at the end of the day that I just want to crash and burn. Right now, I'm looking forward to getting home, play a little with Cami and enjoy a nice salad on the couch! Add a little masterpiece mystery from the DVR to that and everything will be alright in the world =)
Two more days of work and then a weekend with both fun work. All the new windows for the living room has been delivered and are ready for installation. Hurray! I've been waiting for this for a long time. I can't wait to get rid of that yucky window with tapped condensation.

I'm finally heading over to the tennis center on Saturday. Rich got me some new lessons a while ago and I've been too busy to schedule anything! But we can't have all work and no play, right?!

Not much to do on a snowy October day. Yes, you heard it right, snowy! Can you believe that we are actually getting snow before Halloween!? It's been such a miserable day that not much has gotten done—at least Campbell let me put up her hair for the very first time. In the past she has pulled out any elastics and clips about 4 seconds after I put them in. But today's attempt of pigtails was a success.

Of course, now I just hope that she is going to be cooperating tomorrow when she is wearing her costume for the family Halloween party. This year I'll pass on dressing up, even I usually love it. I can only focus on getting one perfect costume pulled together!

Hidden Gems: The Habitat Shop

Here is another little hidden New York gem for you. This store is my latest find in my exploration of Chelsea—and it's such an amazing place! The Habitat Shop on 19th Street between 6th and 7th Ave has literally a little bit of everything. Home decor, apparel, baby stuff, accessories. You name it, they got it.

Just this afternoon I spotted an amazing purple silk dress with white polka dots. It totally reminded me of the dresses my grandma used to wear in the 1940s. Then there was also that silver grey sequin dress that was just to die for...I didn't have time to stop by today, but it was tempting!

Four wonderful days off have unfortunately come to an end. It's amazing how quickly time passes by when you are off. Luckily I have only four more days at work before I'm have another four days of vacation—I could get used to this schedule.

Stopped by the Bronx Zoo on Friday. I hadn't been back for almost ten years, and I had forgotten how much I love that place. Of course, bringing Cami made it extra special. She was so good the whole day. No crying, tantrums or whimpering, but as always when we are out, no napping either. She was absolutely fascinated by the gorillas, and I have to admit so was I. It's so amazing being up close and personal with them. They look so human!

Mixed work and fun this weekend. My handy husband and stepdad almost finished putting up the new fence—hopefully this will give Cami some space to roam around without us watching her every step. (Having the parents here helping out for a few weeks is making is so much easier to get things done! ) Have been trying to finish her swingset, and if I could now just find that new swing it would be all done.

Got some design gratification too today—I installed the the new totally delicious purply pink Bumling light. It looks like a perfect gumball over my dining room table.

Of course, I have still not decided on fabrics for the upholstery of our vintage bamboo armchairs, but I zeroed in on a site called spoonflower.com that have really cool mid century fabrics. If I could only make up my mind so my living room would have finished chairs before the holidays, I would be a happy camper.

Pumpkin Patch

We had such an beautiful day out in Water Mill on Saturday—except maybe for that wind (it made my hair look all wild and crazy). Apple picking and pumpkin picking at Milk Pail Farms and then a quick stop at Duck Walk wineries. Campbell was so excited running up and down the rows in the apple orchard and out in the pumpkin patch—at the end of the day we were all exhausted (especially mom and dad). Watching Campbell experiencing everything for the first time is so amazing! ANd having my parents here with Campbell makes everything even better.

We ended up leaving the Hamptons with 1/2 peck of apples and three huge pumpkin richer. I'm guessing these apples will last us for months, unless someone pass me some yummy apple recipes. Any one have something delish made with apples to recommend (I can only make so many apple cakes)?

Running on Empty

This day couldn't end fast enough! Finally on my way home to start four much needed days off.
Heading back into Manhattan tomorrow with mom and Stickan. I'm thinking a pit stop at Eataly and then some Soho shopping—I'm in desperate need of some new clothes.

Every morning for the last two months have begun with swearing and frustration over the selection in my closet. Time to do something about it! I'm thinking J. Crew, Club Monaco, Madewell, Zara and maybe even Gap tomorrow. I just need some fun AND functional pieces to mix and match. After a shopping trip I always feel rejuvenated and ready to clean out my closet—all those summer clothes definitely need to be put away!

Did some speed shopping on my way home tonight. Bought a stroller in 6 minutes flat! I think that's my record. No over-thinking or shopping around here =)

I haven't had tons of time to update the last few days, but here is a quick weekend run down.

Amazing dinner with my girlfriends on Saturday night. We managed to polish off two bottles of champagne in just two and a half hours! So much fun catching up on babies, work and other good stuff.

Sunday excursion in the unseasonable hot weather to an Apple Festival. We were completely overdressed. Black leggings and dark jeans in 85F weather are totally unnecessary. Still managed to fire off the mobile for a few quick photos. We managed to smile and look somewhat happy even while we were melting away!

Got an mail from my brother this morning with a quick complaint that I don't write much about everyday life. the truth is that not much new is happening on the week days. With both of us working everyday and our sweet-pea at the nanny's, everyday looks pretty much the same. Between morning drop offs, commutes, work, evening pick ups, bath time, dinner time and beddy bye bye, we don't have time for much else. We pretty much live for the weekends and what ever we can squeeze into those two short days every week. Some days I wish I didn't have to work and other days I get a thrill from my career—especially now when I got assigned to a huge skin care brand. It's difficult to feel that you don't get to spend enough time with your kid, and on top of that you feel really guilty about it. I have always worked so I would be afraid of going stir crazy around the house. I love being with Cami, but 24/7 kid-time would probably make me go a little nuts. I have this internal debate everyday in my head and I don't anticipate it being resolved anytime soon =)

Getting close to midnight so it's time to go to bed for tonight.

A beautiful start to the long holiday weekend—a sunny and warm Friday evening. Perfect night to fire up the grill for some steaks and fresh wild mushrooms from Eataly.

So thankful to be off on Monday; I'm in desperate need of a day off with my sweetpea. And since she's spending all of tomorrow with grandma, aunts and cousins Pumpkin picking at Schmitt Farms, in may be able to sneak in a nap too. Ahh, I can't even remember what a nap feels like anymore =)

Getting together with my girlfriends for a moms' night out tomorrow too. My goodness, it will be so much fun catching up. We haven't gotten together forever—I guess between kids, houses, work and husbands there's not much time left in the day. But we'll capitalize on the time we have and talk and drink wine fast and furiously.

Farmer's Market

Spent all Sunday decorating the house for fall, cleaning up the yard and doing one gazillion loads of laundry. I still don't understand where all the dirty laundry comes come!? Every weekend those baskets are overflowing and yet they were empty just a few days before that. Very mysterious.

Treated ourselves to breakfast at Munday's—their strawberry french toast is just to die for! And just be coincidence we realized that Huntington has a farmer's market every Sunday up until Thanksgiving. How come i knew nothing about this!? I love getting locally grown produce and helping the few farms still around on Long Island. We got so much good stuff, but my favorites were the golden beets, baby carrots and green tomatoes. And I can't forget about that Ale bread and cinnamon raisin loaf we got too—the whole fridge is full of amazing fresh produce.

(I think some tea and cinnamon raisin bread is a must on a beautiful fall night like this!)

The Dry Bar

Just came home from a five hour commute from the city. Three lightening strikes on the train signal switches outside Jamaica. What are the chances of that!? Luckily Rich and I had met up in the city, so we managed to squeeze in a surprise date night. Yummy food and great atmosphere at Cross Bar at the old Limelight (they have a beautiful outdoor patio.)

Thanks god tomorrow is Friday and as a little treat to jump-start the weekend, I'm treating myself to a blow out at Dry Bar. I have been dying to try out this place on 16th street. Motto: No Color. No cut. Just blow outs! And seriously, often that's all you need to put that little extra bounce in your step! They offer tons of different types of blowouts—I'm going for the Mai Tai—all $40 (for an extra $10 you get a 10 min scalp massage during your wash.) Plus the place is beautiful!

Another busy weekend. Mom and Stig are coming in just another two weeks and we have so much to get done! But never too busy for play time! With fall just around the corner, we are really trying to take advantage of the beautiful weather.

I've started to make some weekend plans for my parents visit. I'm thinking maybe a day in Mystic and a day apple picking and wine tasting at Duck Walk Winery out east. I've never gotten around to vistit Mystic and Rich hasn't been there since he was little so I think it may be perfect. And who doesn't want a day of delicious apples and wine--maybe we'll even load up on some pumpkins and pie too.
