I used to live in Astoria, Queens, hence taking the N and the R subway home from Manhattan everyday. The classic 70s train interior was something you always could count on. The orange and yellow seats paired with the faux dark wood grain contact paper was a tell tail sign that you were on the right train home.
On train ride today I noticed that the MTA is actually investing a little bit of money in the subway system. I guess I should be happy that they are upgrading the train interior on the old train, but after spotting the powder blue seats, I actually missed the crappy old train a little.
