Berry and Rosé Cocktail

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup creme de cassis liqueur
1 1/2 cups of assorted berries (blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries)
1 bottle of chilled dry rosé wine
2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Put berries in a heatproof pitcher. Bring sugar, water and creme de cassis just to a simmer in a small saucepan. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Make sure you don't bring it to a boil sicne all the alcohol in the liqueur will evaporate then. Pour the syrup into the pitcher with the berries and let stand for 5 minutes. Add the rosé wine and lemon juice. Stir well. Chill, covered until it's time to serve. Serve over ice. (About 4-6 servings)
