After years of the neglect, the old Episcopalian church on 6th Ave and 20th street, once home to the famed Limelight nightclub, may finally be restored. Rumor has it that the space will be renovated and turned into retail space, possibly a Victoria's Secret.
The hottest place in the late 80s and into the 90s, Peter Gatien's The Limelight nightclub was the the place to see and be seen, and home of the original Club Kids, Michael Alig, James St. James, Richie Rich, Amanda Lepore, and RuPaul. Alig was later convicted of murdering drug dealer Angel Melendez and dumping his body in the East River. The whole story of Michael Alig was chronicled in 2003 in the movie "Party Monster".
